Pictured left to right: Elaine Daniels, Linda Skalsky, Nancy Holt and Ammey McNally

A year ago Elaine Daniels completed the 2005 Danskin Women's Triathlon in Denver CO. She called her Mom and ask that Linda and Nancy join her in Denver in 2006. Nancy ask her daughter Ammey to join them in the adventure. The commitment was made and training began. The road to the event had obstacles tossed at us, however, we persevered. We arrived in Denver the evening of July 12. For the next three days we tried to acclimate ourselves to the altitude, swam in open water and rode the bikes Elaine had borrowed.

We got up at 4:00am and arrived at the race site before 5:30am. There was over 2,000 participates and we all had butterflies in our bellies and monkeys on our backs. Elaine competed in her age group and the rest of us completed in the MIXED group. Linda, Ammey and Nancy was in the last wave to start the race. It was close to 8:45am when we entered the water. By the time we finished the temperature was over 100 degrees. We all completed the race and was awarded metals for our accomplishment.

On Monday the four of us along with Sharon (Elaine's friend and triathlon participate) enjoyed a spa treatment at Beau Visage Spa.

In January, Nancy made the commitment to participate in two triathlon's in 2006. With the Danskin completed, Ammey and Nancy will be training for Akron International Sports Festival, at Portage Lakes State Park in Akron, Ohio. All events are sanctioned by the USA Triathlon Association. This Women’s Only Triathlon on Saturday September 16, featuring a 250 yard swim, followed by a 7 mile bike and finishing with a 2 mile run. This race is the perfect first timer event for those wanting to get their feet wet in the sport of triathlon in a very non-competitive environment.
