Alabama 9-point

Keith made his annual hunting trip to Alabama this last weekend to go hunting with Danny, Forrest and the rest of the Wise County Virginia hunting crew.
It was amazing they even got to Alabama. Forrest and Keith had to drive to Greensboro, NC for their flight in a driving snowstorm and I-81 was down to one lane. After getting to the airport and boarding their flight, the airplane took off and had to hold over Greensboro with a landing gear problem when it wouldn't retract properly. They circled over Greensboro to burn off fuel, and 1.5 hours later landed at Greensboro again. Getting no where...fast. With limited flight options, the traveling duo rented a car and drove 7-hours to Alabama. It was a true male bonding "road trip" type experience.

Yet the end result was worth it. On Friday, Keith harvested an Alabama 9-point. (see picture below).

Celebrating 35 years

January 20th - Thirty-five years ago Charlie and Nancy exchanged wedding vows. This year they celebrated at Hocking Hills Old Mans Cave for the 42nd winter hike. We had a great time.

The following was written in The Logan Newspaper:

On Saturday, assembled hikers are departing continuously between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. fromthe Old Man's Cave Visitor Center. Groups of hikers start down the six-mile trail to Ash Cave at regular intervals until 11 a.m. Park officials urge hikers to arrive by 10:30 a.m. and to dress warmly. Sturdy hiking boots are also suggested. The hike takes approximately five hours.

Logan Kiwanis club members are serving a lunch of bean soup, cornbread and hot chocolate at Cedar Falls, the mid-way point of the hike. Donations are encouraged.

The first hikers came to Hocking Hills State Park 42 years ago, according to the Hocking Hills State Park Web site. The 60-person hike was led by the Park Naturalist Norv Hall. The record year for hikers was in 1998 with 5,200 visitors. Even though the hike is held in snow, rain, and shine, the winter hike was cancelled one year - in 1978 - because of a blizzard. There were still 70 hikers who showed up that year. Winter hike souvenir patches and hiking staff emblems also are available for purchase. Transportation is being provided from Ash Cave back to Old Man's Cave following the hike.

Happy New Year - 2008

Monday - January 14. We are 14 days into 2008 and this is the first posting. I should be ashamed of myself. Obviously, we are all still trying to recover from the busy holiday season. I would like to thank my family and friends for a memorable holiday and the gifts you gave to Charlie and me. It was great spending time after Christmas in Blacksburg with Keith, Natasha, Forest and Rosina. Thank you to Natasha's neighbors, Kay and Renee for coming to Natasha's and teaching us how to bead. Keith, good luck deer hunting this coming weekend. We will watch for pictures on the blog. Charlie and Nancy are going to Logan OH this weekend for the winter hike at Old Man's Cave. We will celebrate our.......drum roll please.......35th wedding anniversary on January 20th. I purchased a new memory card for my digital camera, hopefully, the pictures I take will come out better.
